A few years ago, I came across an individual who had attended one of our Ignite the Supernatural Conferences. In reconnecting with this person they were so kind in their compliments of the conference. It truly had made an impact in their life. Everything was great until they made a statement telling me that because of their relationship with the Holy Spirit, they no longer studied before they went in to minister to the children. Now, they just "flowed" with the Spirit and whatever happened was a result of His leading. Believe me when I write that I did correct that error. We teach that flowing is a direct result of time with the Lord (prayer) and time in His Word. This time in His Word is also called preparation or study. That is why Paul told Timothy to "study to show yourself approved unto God". This preparation in the Word will prevent doctrinal error and keep the ministry balanced and not wacky and weird.
I came across this quote from R.C. Sproul's book The Mystery of the Holy Spirit. It is great counsel for those desiring to flow with the Holy Spirit.
"The Holy Spirit may be distinguished from the Word, but to separate the Word and the Spirit is spiritually fatal. The Holy Spirit teaches, leads, and speaks to us through the Word and with the Word, not apart from or against the Word. How grievous it is to the Holy Spirit when unbridled spirits mock God by claiming the leading of the Spirit when they are acting against the Word."
If you truly want to a Holy Ghost children's ministry, STUDY and PREPARE. Find a Word-filled curriculum or create a teaching series that will usher in the desired move of God. Walk into the service with both YOU and YOUR team ready to teach the lesson all the while being subject to the prompting of the Holy Spirit, the One who aided you in your preparation. In doing so, here will be the results.Powerful ... yes. Biblically sound and balanced ... yes. Holy Ghost sensitive ... yes. Wacky and weird ... no!
Let's keep the Holy Spirit and the Word together. In other words, place the FLOW with the KNOW and then you and your children will GROW. (I'm a poet and didn't know it.)

Making Room for the Supernatural
Here's a powerful thought for this week ... are you making room for the supernatural working of the Holy Spirit in your ministry each week? Too often, the Holy Spirit sits waiting for an opportunity to squeeze into your schedule and rarely given the opportunity to fulfill the will of the Father.
I can't and won't debate that God is sovereign and can do anything that He wants, when He wants. But, in reading the scriptures, I find this to be a fact. God manifests His presence, He shows that He is in the room, when we become a part of the equation by getting involved by making room for Him.
The account of the Shunamite woman in 2 Kings 4 shows the importance of building or making room for the supernatural. You know the story. I don't have to remind you that it was because of her care for Elisha through first feeding him and then later building a room upon her house for Elisha that prepared the place for the resurrection of her dead son.
I challenge you to read the story. Read how her actions opened the door for the supernatural. Then, look at your ministry through fresh eyes. Are you preparing for Him to show up? Have you made room in your service schedule? Have you made room in yourself? Have you made room in the heavenlies? Have you made room in your children?
There is much to share on this subject. Perhaps in future blogs I can break it down further. Or, better yet, come to our Ignite the Supernatural Conference being held in Las Colinas (Irving), Texas on September 30 - October 2 where I'll be teaching a workshop titled "Making Room for the Supernatural". It's not too late to register. Check it out at www.igniteconference.com.

Bring Back the Testimonies!
When I grew up in a small South Texas Assemblies of God church, the testimony service was an important part of each gathering. Sister Evans might stand up and tell of the miracle that God had performed during the past week. Sydney Smith might stand up and dance a Holy Ghost dance as he told about how God had saved a family member. Almost weekly, there would be someone who would testify of a healing that had taken place.
I miss that portion of the church service. Sadly, our time together each week has become so regulated and/or the crowds have become so large that our people are sporadically hearing testimonies given only as a faith-builder before the offering is to be received or as an occasional illustration in the preacher's message.
In our children's classes, testimony services are almost nonexistent. Like the adult services, its absence could be due to having too much to do in such a limited, regulated time structure. Or, even worse, it could be due to the fact that there's nothing to tell about. The few testimonies given are often about what God did years ago in other moves of God or about what God is doing elsewhere in other revivals.
Where are our testimonies? Are we giving our boys and girls an opportunity to answer God's challenge of "prove me now"? Are we daring to actually pray for the sick in our services and expecting a miracle as we pray? Are giving our children the opportunity to call out to God the names of their unsaved family members or the ungodly kid down the street and expecting salvation testimonies in the days to come?
I'm thankful for what God did in kids in the Welch Revival and the Azuza Street Revival. I'm thrilled at what I see happening with boys and girls in the Lakeland Healing Outpouring. But each of these moves are either from a different date in history or a different zip code.
Let's bring back the testimony service. Let's make room for God to move supernaturally at 33463 or whatever your zip code might be. If you make room for Him, He will always show up!

10/10 in 2008
Rather than share a thought about flowing with the Holy Spirit this week, let me share with you what I consider to be a directive for my life. If you have been to any of our national or regional Ignite the Supernatural Conferences, you have heard me share about the assignment that I received from God while flying home from Fiji in 2001 about raising up a generation of Children's Ministry leaders who will lead their children and ministry into a Holy Ghost revival.
A couple of weeks ago, I received what I consider to be an important directive to facilitate this assignment. I felt an urgency to go to 10 cities this year and invite 10 Children's Ministry leaders in that city and surrounding area to spend 2 hours with me on a Friday evening. The purpose is to impart the vision that God has given me and ignite and fan the flames of revival in that geographical area. I am convinced that the 2 hours will make a monumental impact in that area. There is absolutely no cost for this. I will cover every expense.
If you are interested in more details, please contact me at billy@billyburnsministries.com.

It's Not Too Late to Register
Are you longing for a children's service that allows the Holy Spirit to move mightily among your children? Are you ready to see your children fulfill Joel's prophesy (Joel 2:28) and begin to flow with the Holy Spirit?
Let me encourage you to join people from all over the United States and other countries coming together for the 2008 Ignite the Supernatural Conference on January 31 - February 2, 2008 in Orlando, Florida. While many children's ministry conferences teach a wide selection of workshops covering puppetry, object lessons, discipline techniques, etc., this conference focuses every workshop and general session on preparing you and your team to lead your children into a relationship with the Holy Spirit that will cause them to turn their worlds upside down. (Acts 17:6).
The Ignite the Supernatural Conference includes 16 workshops, 5 general sessions, a keynote evening with one of America's most dynamic teachers John Bevere (www.messengerintl.org), 3 meals (dinner Thursday and Friday evening, lunch Friday), and the conference notebook, all of this at a registration price way below most national conferences.
For information, visit www.ignite-conference.com today. Check out the workshops and teachers. I know that you will want to join us. I guarantee that your ministry will never ever be the same again!

John Wesley's Prophecy
John Wesley was once asked if he was fearful that the Methodist church in America would cease to exist. "Never!" he replied. "But," he added, "I am fearful that it will cease to exist as a movement with power and godliness and become only a church with a form of godliness, denying the power thereof."
Sadly, in many churches, John Wesley's fear for Methodism has been realized. What was birthed in revival has seen the fire diminish and the power disappear. The move of God is restricted to historical accounts of the denomination's beginnings.
I don't want the children in our Pentecostal/Charismatic churches to hear stories about our beginnings and not see that the Holy Spirit is alive and well today wanting to demonstrate His power as seen in the Book of Acts. I don't want what has happened in Methodism to repeat itself in the children's ministry in our churches. I desire to have children who are fulfilling Joel's prophecy and being a powerful, Spirit-filled force in this earth.
God didn't promise something that He couldn't deliver. Today can be the day that the Holy Spirit begins to work mightily among your children. Today can be the day that they begin to speak boldly for God (prophesy). Instead of reading about His history, your children can begin to make history!
How can this happen? Train your children's ministry leaders and volunteers to learn how to flow with the Holy Spirit. When they begin to flow with the Holy Spirit, the children will begin to recognize and respond to His presence. When they begin to respond, watch out ... new chapters will be written in the Acts of the Holy Spirit (the Book of Acts).
Unfortunately, you won't find many books to equip your leaders. Few seminars and conferences will challenge your staff to grab ahold of their passport and begin to travel into the realm of the supernatural.
We want to help you to raise up a Spirit-led, Spirit-equipped children's ministry team. We want to help your Sunday school, Children's Church, and mid-week Bible clubs to become a launching pad for a Joel 2 generation of boys and girls. Take a minute and look at the Ignite the Supernatural Conference web site at www.ignite-conference.com for additional information.
